FAQ

What is the best vegetable garden layout?

It all depends on where you live. For easy harvesting, it is best to plant vegetables in the same area as your home. For maximum yield, however, it is best to space your plants if you are in a rural area.

Which seeds should you start indoors?

A tomato seed is the best for indoor gardening. Tomatoes can be grown quickly and they bear fruit all year. When growing tomatoes in pots, be careful when transplanting them into the ground. You should not plant tomatoes too soon. The soil can dry out, and the roots could rot. You should also be aware of diseases like bacterial Wilt that can quickly kill your plants.

How many hours of daylight does a plant really need?

It depends on which plant it is. Some plants need 12 hours of direct sun per day. Others prefer 8 to 10 hours of indirect sun. Most vegetables need at least 10 hours of direct sunlight per 24-hour time period.

When should you plant flowers?

Spring is the best season to plant flowers. It is when the temperatures are warmer and the soil is still moist. If you live outside of a warm climate, it is best not to plant flowers until the first frost. The ideal temperature for indoor plants is around 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Can I grow fruit trees inside pots?

Yes! Fruit trees can be grown in pots if you're short on space. To prevent tree rot, make sure the pot has drainage holes. Also ensure that the pot is large enough to accommodate the root ball. This will prevent the tree from being stressed.

What is the minimum space required to grow vegetables?

The rule of thumb is to use 1/2 pound seed per square foot. For example, if you have a 10 foot by 10 foot area (3 meters by three meters), 100 pounds of seeds will be required.

When is the best month to plant a vegetable garden in my area?

From April to June is the best season for vegetables. This is when the soil gets warmest, and plants tend to grow quickly. You might want to wait until July/August if you live in a cold area.

How To

Organic fertilizers are available for garden use

Organic fertilizers are made of natural substances like manure, compost and fish emulsion. The term organic refers to the use of non-synthetic materials for their production. Synthetic fertilizers contain chemicals used in industrial processes. They are widely used in agriculture because they provide nutrients to plants quickly and efficiently without requiring laborious preparation methods. Synthetic fertilizers can pose risks to the environment and human health. These fertilizers also require high amounts of energy, water and time to make. Runoff from synthetic fertilizers can also pollute groundwater and surface water. This is a problem for wildlife and humans alike.

There are several kinds of organic fertilisers:

* Manure - is made when livestock eat nitrogen (a plant food nutrient). It has bacteria and enzymes that help to break down the waste, resulting in simple compounds that are easy for plants to absorb.

* Compost is a mixture of vegetable scraps and grass clippings, animal manure, and decaying leaves. It is rich in carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium and sulfur. It is highly porous so it can retain moisture well and release nutrients slowly.

* Fish Emulsion- A liquid product that is made from fish oil. It dissolves fats and oils in a similar way to soap. It contains trace elements and phosphorous as well as nitrogen and nitrogen.

* Seaweed Extract – A concentrated solution containing minerals extracted from kelp. It is rich in vitamins A, C and iodine as well as iron.

* Guano - Excreta from amphibians and seabirds. It is rich in nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium as well as sodium, magnesium, sulfate and chloride.

* Blood Meal - the remains of slaughtered animals. It is rich in protein which is useful for feeding birds and other animals. It also has trace minerals such as phosphorous, potassium, nitrogen and other nutrients.

Mix equal amounts of compost, manure, and/or fish oil to make organic fertilizer. Mix well. If you don’t own all three ingredients, one can be substituted for the other. For example, you could mix 1 part of the fishemulsion with 2 parts of compost if only you have access to fish emulsion.

To apply the fertilizer, spread it evenly over the soil using a shovel or tiller. One quarter cup of the fertilizer should be spread per square foot. To see signs of new growth, you'll need more fertilizer each two weeks.
