How to Grow Water-Resistant Vegetables and Herbs

regrowing

It is possible to grow your own vegetables and save money. This is a very cost-effective method that only requires a couple of tablespoons of water. If you're smart, you can even reuse water from other sources. This will save you money on groceries and reduce food waste. In addition, regrow vegetables can make eating organic food more affordable because they're made from leftovers, which is often wasted food.

You can regrow the same vegetable several times if you take a cutting. You can also regrow basil, cilantro and lettuce from the stems. You can also plant a pineapple, celery, or ginger in water to re-grow. You can also regrow herbs from cuttings such as leeks and garlic, ginger, lemongrass, and rosemary. Make sure to not overcrowd your plants!

The easiest vegetables to re-grow from scraps are the green onions. They don't require a lot of attention and taste great. Romaine lettuce is easier to regrow than other lettuce varieties. The middle of the romaine leaves has firm ribs. This makes it ideal for regrowing. For salads, you can also use celery and fennel greens. Green onions can be regrown by simply removing the stems.

By soaking other vegetables in water, you can re-grow them. Once they are large enough to withstand the water, simply transplant them into soil. They will look much smaller than the original but will have a fresh taste and a surprisingly large number of uses. If you want to enjoy fresh greens again, take a few leftover celery and leeks with you and enjoy your garden once more.

A bucket is the best tool to re-grow your ginger. A cement bucket will work perfectly. Pour four inches of potting soil into the bucket and place the sprouted ginger on top. You should water regularly until sprouts appear. You can start re-growing ginger as soon as there are sprouts. This is a great way save money and to have fresh ginger on hand. If you don't know what to do with ginger, get an old bucket.

Onions are another good vegetable to re-grow. You can also chop the tops and keep them in a glass water. After the tops have regrown you can harvest their green parts. You can keep harvesting the green portions until production slows. It's very simple. After you have harvested the green parts, you can harvest roots and allow the green tops of the plants to regrow.

Lemongrass is another great herb to regrow. It can be hard to find lemongrass at your local grocery store. However, you can regrow it easily using the roots of lemongrass. Place the root end in water, and let it dry in sunlight. Within one week, the root will have regrown and you'll soon be able harvest the stalks as well as the leaves. Lemongrass is an excellent choice for indoor and outdoor herb gardens.

How To

Organic fertilizers for your garden

Organic fertilizers are made from natural substances such as manure, compost, fish emulsion, seaweed extract, guano, and blood meal. The term organic refers to the use of non-synthetic materials for their production. Synthetic fertilizers can be used in industrial processes. Because they are quick and efficient, synthetic fertilizers are popular in agriculture. They don't require laborious preparation. However, synthetic fertilizers pose a risk to the environment and our health. In addition, they require large amounts of energy and water to produce. Many synthetic fertilizers are also harmful to groundwater and water surface because of runoff. This pollution is detrimental to humans and wildlife alike.

There are many kinds of organic fertilizers.

* Manure - produced when livestock eat food containing nitrogen (a plant nutrient). It contains bacteria and enzymes that break down the waste into simple compounds that plants can absorb easily.

* Compost is a mixture from vegetable scraps, grass clippings and decaying leaves. It is high in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium as well as calcium, magnesium, sulfur. It is porous so it retains moisture well and releases nutrients slowly.

* Fish Emulsion is a liquid product made from fish oil. It works similarly to soap in that it dissolves oils and fats. It also contains trace elements like phosphorous, Nitrogen, and other elements.

* Seaweed extract - A concentrated solution of minerals from kelp and red algae. It is rich in vitamins A, C and iodine as well as iron.

* Guano, excrement taken from amphibians, bats, reptiles and seabirds. It contains carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous as well as potassium, sodium and magnesium.

* Blood Meal - the remains of slaughtered animals. It is rich with protein, making it useful for feeding poultry or other animals. It also contains trace mineral, phosphorus as well as potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus.

Make organic fertilizer by combining equal parts manure, fish emulsion, and compost. Mix well. You can substitute one with another if you don't have access to all three ingredients. For example, you could mix 1 part of the fishemulsion with 2 parts of compost if only you have access to fish emulsion.

Apply the fertilizer by spreading it evenly using a tiller or shovel. You should spread about one quarter cup of the fertilizer per square foot. To see signs of new growth, you'll need more fertilizer each two weeks.
